Re: v Wales

Feck it. So wanted to see Malins start and Daly kicked to touch. Ewels. Never good enough to start but continues to occupy a place on the bench. LCD benched for not scoring a try and, to steal a line form country singer/goddess Shania. ‘Wanna make some noise, really raise my voice Yeah, I wanna scr...

Re: v Wales

Apart from the front row and second row, possibly, is this team stronger on paper than the Welsh one in any unit? I think if Jones gets anything less than a 90% performance, defeat is a real possibility, especially with nothing better than about 75% over the last half dozen games. Wales traditional...

Re: v Wales

I like how you missed someone out there:) Billy is a world class talent . . . Diggers, is that still a reasonable statement? Is it just that he is out of form or has the pace of the game left him behind? This game could be a good examination for him to determine if he has still got it or not. Other...

Re: v Wales

Is he? I’m not sure anyone is claiming he’s the messiah, or even close to a perfect player. Is anybody actually saying that? It just seems that Vunipola’s untouchable status has gone on quite a long time considering the others performing well in the AP/Europe. Billy probably shouldn't be in the tea...

Re: Cricket fred

TBH, while I agree the players should be more mentally capable to play on this, for a test match to last less than 2 days is embarrassing. The pitch was hooping all over the place, and the spinners didn't even know which ball would spin and which would go straight on. No wonder the batsmen couldn't ...

Re: Universal Basic Income

We could probably be better than perfectly fine with 50% employment or lower, though... And then employers like meat Packers or Amazon would need to change their systems as their jobs become less appealing. Why work in such poor conditions for money you don’t need? I’d say that’s a good thing. As i...

Re: Universal Basic Income

(1) I don't think buying in labour from other countries is a sensible long term solution, for many reasons. By all means bring the best experts in all relevant fields to boost our universities, but we should be developing home grown talent. (2) What I'm saying is that instead of giving money with n...

Re: Universal Basic Income

We should absolutely be automating as much as possible. We could definitely incentivise working hours reduction. Without having thought it through - if we get to a situation where there is not enough work to go around how about using tax structures to nudge people to work a 4 day week. If you want ...

Re: Tiger Woods

Of course it wouldn't be that cruel if he was DUI Early reports suggest he wasn't. Although with his injuries being a wee bit pished would have helped. The article on the beeb suggests multiple breaks in his bones and open fractures. Did chuckle at this line: Carlos Gonzalez said the golfer was &qu...

Re: Universal Basic Income

I'm all for making welfare more dignified for those who need it, but that does not need UBI to be achieved. We live in a society that is not yet automated enough to function without human labour. I look at it from a Kantian perspective - asking the question what would the outcome be if everyone sto...

Re: Universal Basic Income

If UBI cannibalises existing welfare programs, it's not worth having such a trojan horse. If UBI acts as a bone thrown to the starving poor in order to prevent the guillotine further down the road, then it's not worth having. If UBI is aimed at providing workers with their just proceeds from techno...

Re: Dan Carter finally retiring

Carter did a bunch of good stuff over many many years, but for me, it was the 2015 RWC final that best illustrated the total rugby playing class of the man. He does EVERYTHING really really well. Not the fastest, not the strongest, not the best game management, not the best defender, not the best w...

Re: v Wales

Club form is so much more than just individual performance, though. They're asked to perform different roles, within different frameworks, and with players who support their game differently. Exeter are setup to exploit Sam Simmond's best attributes. It's super hard to judge how he'd compare when in...

Re: Universal Basic Income

Yes it's an incentive to manage tax, but you want those, incentives that is. Perhaps it's not the best model to encourage business but I'd be hesitant to simply change that in isolation Why? What negative could it have? The need to run a profitable businesses and the desire to even run a business c...

You might also change how many businesses are run with that shift in how dividends are taxed. I get a lot of the thinking but it could easily come with a number unintended consequences Like with businesses? And why would they be paying only in dividends if not to avoid tax? Yes it's an incentive to...

Mainly it would seem No.10 is a place to go for infighting, whether that's how Johnson want it, or because he's weak on detail so many people see a chance to advance their agenda isn't perhaps clear, the only clear thing is day to day it's a bun fight in there One way you can get the attention of B...

Re: Universal Basic Income

Where would the UBI go for a child, though? And when would the cutoff be for when that money goes to the child and not to their responsible adult? 16? Out of full-time education? Also, I'm not sure every child needs the full allowance. If a family has 2 children, the second is cheaper than the firs...
