Re: Lions SA 2021

Look, Sutherland looked good, but are you all seriously leaving the best lhp in the world on the bench? You mad! Mako is absolute class when fit, but that does seem to be increasingly rare. Mako also seems to be one of those who’s reputation is getting better and better the less he plays. Sutherlan...

Re: It’s.......

based on what you have written, you could fall into either category. If you are able to keep control of how and when you completed your tasks then it would be outside, but for many consultants HMRC are not being clear and the threat of retrospective action poses a risks to people who are trying to ...

Re: It’s.......

That’s kind of what they are doing with the IR35 rules which were finally enforced this year (or should have been but were suspended for 12 months). If the role is basically indistinguishable to a permanent employees then the hiring company basically collects PAYE from the contractor and gives them...

This is single consultants working via their own business. The product is their knowledge and there aren't that many overheads (although stuff that we would pay for ourselves is claimed as an expense). By paying themselves less they avoid tax, particularly at the higher levels. Particularly where t...

Re: COVID19

So we’re officially at 66 deaths here in Hungary. Considering a woman died before the first official death, suffering with all the symptoms, and whose daughter tested positive, yet her death was not registered as coronavirus... It’s probably at least double that in reality. One person in their 30s, ...

Re: It’s.......

Companies should be prioritising their product over profit. Any profit made should be put back into the business. If the shareholder wants more money...pay themselves a larger wage! Which is one reason I've definitely come round to the idea the highest rate tax band should be high - £250,000+ or ev...

Re: COVID Coping Strategies

I would love to see travel to work included in your paypacket up to a certain point. So 1h a day is paid. It's something I've said to potential employers when talking contracts: If I'm expected to come into the office 4 days a week, I'm going to be wanting pay for the time away from the family. All...

Re: It’s.......

Dividends are taxed at similar rates to income tax - higher in some cases. The company pays corporation tax at 19% before it can pay the dividend and then the shareholder pays at 7.5%, 32.5% or 38.1% on what is received. This means that £100 of pre-tax profit in the company, if paid as dividend, is...

Re: Transfer news, fake news, baseless speculation, and various levels of truthiness - Season 2019/20

Agreed on Matavesi. There’s a good player in there, he just doesn’t seem to string enough good games together. Surprised Bath are potentially letting Homer go. He’s been a reliable player for them. Although it’s weird he doesn’t seem to kick any more. I remember when he was a good goal kicking full...

Why does it make more sense for NH rugby to move rather than SH rugby? Marseille gets a lot hotter than either Brisbane or Auckland, and has a higher average than SA, too. That's kind of the thing...why should we change the calendar? What does it gain us? I'll be honest, I just don't understand the ...

But that’s kinda the point. Corbyn Met with all kinds of people as he could get sucked into anything given a good “poor minority” story. But he did it all with the best intentions. He was just too stupid to actually deal with any of it. I don’t think he was anti-Britain, either, just so far gone in ...

Well it was a smear campaign, I don’t think you can deny that. But Corbyn handled it about as badly as is possible. I’m certain Starmer will handle it much better when it comes. Oh for sure, he fucked it up from start to finish. Honestly, considering the complete absence of party discipline during ...

The super rich can move very easily. Many others can make use of tax havens (we could block them off) but those with them most money can very easily operate out of whatever country offers them the best tax breaks. You mean the people who've already done so? Not many super rich are residents of the ...

Re: It’s.......

You would have to lose basic tax allowance, although if that were set in bar with UI then it would mean you pay tax on anything else you earn. I would look at the raft of tax measures that exist around self employment, some of it is just designed to pay less tax and contractors take the piss routin...

Depending on what you want it to cover, UBI would be a relatively easy morph from the current income support programmes and universal credit. And yes, paid for by closing tax loopholes; actually getting fair tax income from the likes of Amazon and Google (and Jacob Rees Mogg); increasing tax on the...

The downside to promoting small and local businesses is whilst they're the backbone of the economy they're a...

Re: COVID Coping Strategies

I'll be honest, it's a bit of a struggle for me. My wife and I both work from home. Usually, this would involve me getting the kids to nursery and then working from 9-12:30, when I collect them from nursery, get lunch, and then work again from 15:30-17:30. That's good for me in terms of work, and me...

Sir Kier Starmer as the new leader of the Labour Party. Can he make Labour electable again? Will he purge the left or can he unite the factions?
