Re: Kanye it's all going west

It sounds like a lunatic minority fringe. But there are a lot of them who hold this view. And the nutters who assume that a vaccination will result in the insert of a tracking device . Which is pretty hilarious considering that he voluntarily wears a gold tracking device on his left wrist. https://...

Re: Snap General Election called

We do need a system, and we do need it for our military else we could simply be civilian participants of Galileo. But christ alive this isn't much more sensible than playing the lottery as an actual financial plan if that's what it is. If you mean we need our own GNSS system, then that is debatable...

Re: Ghislaine Maxwell

She grew up in privilege (her dad was Robert Maxwell, after all), and apparently went to university with Johnson - although whether this means "they happened to be at uni at the same time in the 80s" or "they were at least acquaintances" is up for debate. I've seen some stuff li...

Re: Ghislaine Maxwell

I’ve certainly heard/seen Clinton and Trump moved in the same circles but not Johnson? She grew up in privilege (her dad was Robert Maxwell, after all), and apparently went to university with Johnson - although whether this means "they happened to be at uni at the same time in the 80s" or...

Re: Snap General Election called

I've no idea what the rationale is behind this investment, but one thing seems clear to me - it can't be about creating yet another GNSS system. It just doesn't make any sense from either a technical or commercial perspective (who wants to be 5th to the market..?). There must be some reason for it t...

Way too many assumptions. Despite his abolitionist stance, he and his wife were still slave owners, and like you said, he was involved in the brutal repression of Native Americans. Like, I'm not sure why you'd think that Indigeneous American activists won't be involved with the current protests, wh...

Why do you think attacking Grants statue was a stupid ill educated mistake? Sent from my CPH1951 using Tapatalk Because they clearly did not know his history and instead took the pretty reasonable assumption that a statue put up of an 18th Century man was of a racist (although further reading on th...

Though, maybe leaving a public sector organisation to develop an app wasn’t the best plan ever. https://www.wired.co.uk/article/contact-tracing-app-isle-of-wight-trial Because the work outsourced to private companies is all going so well? Perhaps both private and public sector have their pros and c...

Re: COVID19

No, I'm blaming the government for bringing in the wrong geeks. A painful case in point over here was Jared Kushner recruiting a group of recently graduated tech and business cheese dicks to coordinate PPE and medical supply sourcing. They basically started sucking each others dicks and recommended...

Re: China v India. Who ya got?

China. However that’s bad terrain to fight over so it could follow previous conflicts where there’s some shelling and border activity but that’s about it. Or it could go nuclear. Happy thoughts. China is definitely throwing its weight about. I’ve seen, at first hand, Chinese seismic crews working i...

Re: China v India. Who ya got?

China every day of the week.
Anyone who has experienced Indian bureaucracy will not be confident that the Indians could arrange to have both weapons and ammunition at the same place at the same time, and certainly not until at least 3 months after the battle is over.

Re: COVID19

I'd be focusing more on the leadership differences as opposed to the relative population sizes. The UK does not appear to have embraced any one single clear strategy and just bumbled along doing effectively nothing. NZ may have a small spread out population, but the major population centers all had...

Re: COVID19

We couldn't have matched what NZ did even if we'd tried and been really good at it, and too they're hardly back to normal in NZ and Australia The more populous your country, the harder hit you are. If you've got 4 men and a dog spread across 2 huge islands...you're probably going to be OK. There is...

Re: America

That's kinda my point. There should be several levels of response between calling nobody and calling LethallyArmedJusticeSoldiers. I haven't seen anything about the car blocking the drive - I had been under the impression it was in a bay. Do you have a sauce? If it was blocking the drive, then that...

I feel that when/if they fish it out of the Avon, it will have more impact and more of a story in a museum now. I think they've done history a service by toppling it and throwing it into the river. I think it's an important part of history now. They did petition the council. The woman at the end of...

After this, the path will involve a number of lists by various groups, after seeing thus far that direct mob action can get a result. Hopefully debate through normal channels and some sensitivity will be the order of the day. Here's the next likely candidate.. https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/...

Re: RE: Re: America

Exactly. I won't even go int the whole discussion over the legitimacy of slavery in that era and what the cultural attitudes towards it were. In today's world slavery is (correctly) reviled and that status should be in a museum to spark debate on changing moral values. I mean, that's a whole differ...

I've no idea why when we're discussing this they even need to file into lobbies to assent or disagree with a proposal, even the system working as it's meant to seems anachronistic at best. I can see why Mogg is a fan of pretending we're not even into the 20th century yet, but for the rest of them i...

Re: Snap General Election called

It doesn't matter if it's officially down to Rees-Mogg. Johnson wants this, so it's happening. If he didn't want it, it wouldn't be happening. De facto, it is down to Johnson. We're back to the discussion on accountability vs responsibility. How far has Boris looked into this in detail or just told...

I’ll repeat. It’s not the Zoom you plebs use for your family pub quiz. GCHQ have been involved in security measures. Given there are cameras in the chamber, in the committee rooms and you can pretty much watch rolling coverage on a dedicated BBC channel I’m not sure what the problem is. I’m sure an...
