It's really hard to evaluate that performance. Loads of brainless mistakes but also playing vs 17.

Re: v Wales
There's a piece in Times today on attitudes in the squad: Quote 'one source described a creative tension within the England squad between the younger generation -players such as Ben Earl, Max Malins and Lawrence and established playmakers over 'how the game can be played and how it has been played....

Re: v Wales
I think player for player comparisons are pointless. To me england and wales are pretty evenly matched but england are in terrible form. Like it's somehow affecting the whole team. Wales seem to have the momentum and things are going their way. I also think that england are playing the refs really b...

Re: v Wales
Club form is so much more than just individual performance, though. They're asked to perform different roles, within different frameworks, and with players who support their game differently. Exeter are setup to exploit Sam Simmond's best attributes. It's super hard to judge how he'd compare when i...

Re: Bath v Gloucester Fri 7.45
Player safety is number one priority, but world rugby needs to rethink what the punishment for a red card is in certain situations, because it just means me, as a casual viewer, turns off the match as soon as a red card is given. Whether that means a 20 minute bin and a new player coming on the pit...

True. That said I reckon loads of english rugby players won't have picked up the game until their early teens.

Re: Mobility of forwards in pre-professional and professional eras
The only viable discussion to be really had here, is how good those players from back yore would be if they were fully professional, with the time and training techniques available today. There is absolutely no question that a professional comes closer to maximising their innate capacity than an am...

Re: Team for Italy
(Loads of images and gifs in between the paragraphs which is why it looks weird with just text). Inside Line: As in 2018, England are undergoing a tactical reboot… but five defining selection calls loom England spread their forwards across the field in a 1-3-2-2 formation, hinting that a tactical re...
