Re: Pro14 to become Pro18?

Gutted. Cheetahs betrayed if that comes to pass. They bought in to the tournament and brought something to it. And before anyone says it, yes, they had no top level tourney to play in when they came in, but the same thing could be said of any other club in the league at the point they joined. What w...

Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)

Did we have a list somewhere on here of potential SQ players? Trying to find it - am sure there was some full back in super rugby not mentioned above who is SQ.

Maybe somebody better at the Internet than me could knock one up on Wikipedia. Am sure agents would be all over it once it’s up and running.

He came off the bench again and played really well I thought in a narrow Blues win v Highlanders.

Re: The Glasgow Carpet Burns and Cary Grant Appreciation Thread

Times did a good article on Matt Smith - behind a paywall tho. Lambasted the SRU for not providing enough opportunities for native talent, using quotes from O’Halloran and Gordon Reid, and pretty much saying Rennie felt similar. It’s not just the lack of a third team, but also not having A teams wh...

Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)

Wow. Great news for him if he can get regular game time. What are sarries seeing that the SRU did not? I suspect he is very cheap by their usual wages though. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/53082987 I don’t think the SRU missed anything. There was something behind the scenes that meant he ...

Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)

Finlay Christie off the bench for the Blues down in Auckland. Seemed to play well, although did get caught when taking a 5 metre line-out at the end of the game when they were going for something different. Was quite funny.

Also looks like he’s been in the gym a bit.

Re: 1872 Cup Champions

Wonder if whatever happened means he’s not going to play for Scotland.

Anyway, I think the signing situation isn’t ideal, but it wouldn’t surprise me if, like a lot of other clubs, Glasgow are keeping their powder dry until they get an idea of what looks like normal over the next couple of years.

NB, it not the Government which would decide (not directly anyway) as that would fall foul or WR - no govt interference allowed. Re: no government interference. WR pay that lip service and take a narrow definition of interference when it suits them. Look at Fiji RU. Also, last time the Kings were t...

Re: Pro14 to become Pro18?

As an aside, they need to move the camera at Scotstoun to the opposite side. Would make it look like more of an event and attract more interest. Anyway, I’m not sure how the maths of 5 SA teams would work if they’re making it into 18. If they do ditch a SA team, I’m not sure it would be the Kings, e...

This guy would be a decent full back for Glasgow - probably a few bargains to be had if they are breaking up los Jaguares.

Re: Pro14 to become Pro18?

I would! They have to avoid the convoluted conference thing. I don’t mind the pro14 set-up as is, but super rugby is impenetrable bollocks designed to let each of the 3 main tv viewing ‘jurisdictions’ into the final stages. I don’t see why they couldn’t use the SA conference as part of the Currie Cu...

Re: Pro14 to become Pro18?

I think it could work well if they got the travel right (max 4 long haul return flights per season?). A SA conference would be well attended, have a sprinkling of stardust and get good viewing figures. Fans would come to places like Ravenhill, Liberty stadium, etc to see Kolisi or du Toit in a Storm...

Would be class.

Not sure what it would mean for Europe, but they have the Currie Cup and could maybe run that alongside the pro14.

Always liked Swinson’s attitude, although I think his major contribution to Scottish rugby could well be the players’ union. Improved engagement and what have you.

Also good luck to Gibbons - very good player. Poor example for a lockdown haircut tho.

Re: The Glasgow Carpet Burns and Cary Grant Appreciation Thread

I think it’s going to be a weird season next time out. The virus has obviously affected succession planning in terms of budget in particular. I hope it’s going to be an opportunity that allows some young lads, who might not otherwise have got the chance, to come through. We can see how the academies...

Ruaridh Jackson retiring. Good luck to him.

Always admired him for playing a few minutes at the end of that game where we walloped Australia before playing away in wales for warriors not 24 hours later!
