Re: NFL Draft

Cam Newton signs for the Pats. Big D's got to be feeling pretty grumpy at that one. In many ways an obvious signing that immediately makes the Pats better at very little to no risk. In other ways it's going to be fascinating to see McDaniels dust off the old Tebow playbook. The interesting thing fo...

Re: NFL Draft

I’d love to be a Bills fan right now. I think you have all the foundation pieces to make another step. That’s before you get to the Pats and their late round QB replacing goat therefore making the division easier. I also think the NFL is moving towards the type of QB that Allen is. You also have th...

Re: All-new Scotland Sevens and Re-start Efficiency Thread

Well here’s a headline that made my blood boil! Scotland, England and Wales sevens teams to merge... it’s a proposal that entails giving up our very raison d’être. We’re either Scotland or we’re nothing. It`s the nearest we`re going to get to a third Pro. squad. Of course, some doubt its value as a...

Re: Transfer news, fake news, baseless speculation, and various levels of truthiness - Season 2019/20

So that’s 8 players out, 2 plus a season loan in. Has to be 30% of our salary cap leaving there. Mostert is a big loss, we will miss him. Hinkley was a huge prospect, gutted he’s moving on. Dreyer never played for us due to injury, so no net change there, Tom Marshall was pure class, he will be a m...

Re: Transfer news, fake news, baseless speculation, and various levels of truthiness - Season 2019/20

Very odd move for a young player, presumably with international ambitions, to make at this stage of their career. I dont see the T14 as being a better development environment than the Premiership, and being in France will mean he wont even be considered for England. Money shouldnt really be a decis...

Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)

Wow. Great news for him if he can get regular game time. What are sarries seeing that the SRU did not? I suspect he is very cheap by their usual wages though. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/53082987 I don’t think the SRU missed anything. There was something behind the scenes that meant he ...

Decent overview of the Edinburgh squad. One or two players missing from the depth chart but it is a good summary:

Cockerill seems have have messed up in as much as Jono Lance has been denied a visa and won't be joining Edinburgh. Re: 1872 Cup Champions

The lock situation at Glasgow looks like a shit show as Sykes is apparently being snapped up by Edinburgh too (wtf?). They only have Gray, Harley & Cummings on the books. Lots of rumours ranging from McDonald & Naka being resigned to CHH and Alex Toolis coming back north. Either way it look...

Re: Salary Cap changes

Yes. I have some sympathy with the players on how this has been handled. On the other hand, being paid 75% of something vs. the real threat of 100% of nothing if clubs go out of business. If a couple of clubs were to go under, there would be a lot of players who’d be unemployed and less clubs with ...

Re: 1872 Cup Champions

If say Naka, McDonald and CHH sign then that is problem solved. A few ifs there though from what I've gathered CHH is not coming back north of the border. The reason he moved south has not changed. If Sarries want to keep him, even for a year, I probably wouldn't come back north even if Glasgow wan...

Re: The Glasgow Carpet Burns and Cary Grant Appreciation Thread

I hope that they have some signings that they are holding off announcing until they know what they are signing them for. Rennie intimated as much. I can see the logic for it very much to be focused on youngsters but some positions there just aren't the numbers at the moment. kind of this. If they a...

Gronk is. Brady just continuing but with a new team.

Cool- did Brady not retire after the playoff ko last season?

He was just out of contract or able to opt out of the Pats one.

Re: The Glasgow Carpet Burns and Cary Grant Appreciation Thread

I know there are signings (and possibly re-signings) to come but christ the squad is looking thin.

Front row looks ok.

3 senior second rows under contract.

2 senior 10's plus Horne which is probably enough-ish.

Back row and back 3 look very bland.

I agree. It is an idea that sounds good but has too many issues that would prevent it happening and surviving.

Re: Pro14 to become Pro18?

Would rather see a European league but that wouldn't work either. This proposal could well be a prelude or proving ground for exactly that. It might give us a chance in that case. Were it to go straight to a Euro League the English & French would set the rules, Irish would be in because "I...

Re: Pro14 to become Pro18?

Not a fan of the South African teams in the Pro xx league. No matter how many you want in it. The overall quality of Super Rugby has lowered the more teams that are involved and I'm not sure the benefits outweigh the negatives of having teams on another continent involved. Would rather see a Europea...

Re: NFL Draft

Never optimistic as a Bills fan :-( The Diggs trade was ok given the situation I think. With off season activities limited and the Bills being in their window to make their move I'm not sure we could rely on a rookie receiver. I'm not a huge Diggs fan but he will demand the attention of defences and...
