I went there 14 years ago but the only stadium I visited was the Collosseum and I stayed with a Chinese family and almost got run down by the Pope Mobile in the Vatican City.
If they're good enough to play at World Cups, why not in between?

I'm going myself and will be sitting in one of the main stands. (40-50 euros)

Don't know what to recommend for hotels, we will be renting a flat. seemed like the cheapest option for a group.
Transportation to the stadium from the old center 9(pantheon area) seems to take about 30-45 minutes. Not the best city for public transport if I remember correctly.
Lot's of cheaper hotels near the train station (Norte?) with direct link to the Fiumincino Airport.

I hear Trastevere is the neighbourhood to hang out after.

A quick look on the Italian rugby website for tickets they have some system where you have to say if you want a card or if you already have one?

I seem to recall from the tele that one of the stands is always in the sun, which I guess would he the north stand?

Tbh I havent really looked at accomodation yet...

I would ignore the card thing and get the print at home option. The card seems to be something for regulars.
I was wrong, we will be sitting in block 30 AD (60euros a ticket- ouch but still cheaper than Murrayfield considering location). The North East wing will probably get the most Sun at 1PM.
You might want to check plane ticket prices...

Donny, if you wear your favourite tie/shirt combo you will be beating them off with a shitty stick.

Less than 100€ return from Sofia.

My friends from Edinburgh are going through Oslo airport, and back through Barcelona.

I travelled there by train, stopping breifly in Marseille, Nice & Girona along the way. Great trip. Of course, I was living in Barcelona at the time. 8-)
If they're good enough to play at World Cups, why not in between?

Donny, all you need to do is move to Barcelona and stay with a Chinese family whilst in Rome. Easy peasy. On a side note, don’t forget to keep your eyes open for a rogue Pope Mobile.

I might still have the address for that Chinese family, if you're interested. The matron did a mean egg-fried rice for lunch :)

I have absolutely nothing to add to this conversation, by way of either anecdote or actual advice.

To be honest, I found this to be the most informative post on the entire thread.

Has anyone heard from Donny since the game? I'm starting to think he might have been run down by that rogue pope mobile I tried to warn him about :?

Oh yes, he said Scotland, not England. I always get those two confused. Well, at least he chose the only game Scotland is likely to win in this year's championship. But don't be too sure . . .

Just back from Ascension. Bloody nightmare. Couldn't find the stadium and the hotel room was double booked due to last minute booking from the World Escalator and Mobile Stair Lift Engineers and Installers Conference. Bunch of clueless feckers.
